Synopsis: |

From February 12th through February 28th 2005, the artists Christo and Jean-Claude filled Central Park with a crisscrossing network of 7,500 saffron-colored gates, thus creating the most hyped and talked-about public event this city has seen in a while. I made my own journey through the park on Sunday, February 13th, with Eugenia and her parents. From the first step we took, one thing immediately became clear: we were definitely not alone. The park was filled to the gills with locals and tourists alike, gazing and gawking themselves into a frenzy of youth-like wonder. Some say the experience of being with endless thousands of mersmerized people was more exciting than the installation itself. Regardless of one's personal thoughts (is it art? is it good art? is it worth the money it cost?), this was undeniably a resounding success of an event that really made some waves and put something new into peoples' lives, even if for only a brief period of time.
