After graduating from Columbia, my friend Mike decided to spend a year in Kyoto in a Japanese
studies program. I had the opportunity to visit him over his winter break and got to spend
17 days living in the country. We flew out of Los Angeles into Tokyo, where we spent
about 5 days. From there we went down to Kyoto, which is where I spent the remainder of my
time. I also took a day trip to Nara and two trips to Osaka. These photos provide a VERY
incomplete account of my trip. They were taken few and far between, and I saw/experienced
about a million and one things that they don't even touch upon. There's just no match for
the real thing, I suppose. I'd love to share my experiences if you care to hear them. Some
